NSW Freedom of Information
Media Policy, 01.02.2023
NSW Freedom of Information provides numerous opportunities for feedback and comments from every member of the community.
Opportunities are available on numerous pages where there is a contact form for identified topics and content on this Site.
The community is also encouraged to contact NSW Freedom of Information directly via its published email address info@nswfreedomofinformation.net.
Given the key focus of this Site is to provide a community service to assist the public exercise rights to access NSW government information, the majority of the topic content is considered political communication as it regularly responds to NSW government agency administrative decisions, current associated legislation, and caselaw determinations issued by the NSW Judiciary. We also discuss the impact of such on the public of NSW. Accuracy of ownership of communications is crucial and is why we will often identify agency personnel, and why we never hide in the shadows.
Understandably, the breadth of possible content opened to discussion is extremely broad, and this Site looks forward to each of those discussions.
Social Media supports and forms a major component of our willingness and ability to engage in public debate as these relevant topics present.
In line with our unbridled expectations all NSW government agencies are open, transparent, and accountable, we reciprocate by embracing and exemplifying the same approach in all our public engagement.
This means the public can be assured our commentary will be extremely detailed, and we will never block the ability to submit any comments unless they are definitively and personally denigrating, hurtful or most importantly false. However, we will never take any adverse action without first offering a seat at the table for open discussion where we will listen to every other party.
Neither will we delete or retract our own commentary. We have experienced first-hand, a NSW Government Agency using public monies to have our very first media release deleted from a number of digital media outlets, directly resulting in the launching of this Site, ensuring we maintain our publication integrity.
We invite the NSW government to follow our approach.
Our experience sees Agency mandatory Codes of Conduct, legislative constraints, and politicised disciplinary measures for government employees as completely ineffectual and lacking in any degree of substance, all of which are well-known to NSW government agency personnel.
Again, we invite the NSW government to follow OUR approach.
